Our Garden

2012

In November Division Four worked on building a compost bed to get things started for the garden. To learn more click here.

On April 3rd the new trellised apple tree was planted.
Our parents held a garden work party in early April and not only does the garden look great but students are now able to keep the weeds down without so much help.

Several classes are growing potatoes in tubs. Click here to see what Division Seven's potatoes have been doing.

A Pocket Market is being held at our annual Plant Sale to help support the garden programs. It's taking a lot of work. Click here to learn about the Pocket Market.

Our old composters were not in good shape and now that we have a larger garden we need a new one.

The new composter has been built and is now in use.

Over the weekend three parent volunteers helped build the last two cedar garden beds for our school. They put a lot of effort into the job. Please say thank you to them when you see them. One of the people was my dad and his name is Terry Pape.

Harvesting and Tasting

Learning what we can put into a salad and then we planted some seeds that Susanne will take to her green house to start. She said she will bring them back soon to plant in our garden.

First thing we did was we looked at the plants and tasted the plants. Second thing we did was pick a partner. Third thing we picked a milk carton. Fourth thing we schooped the soil. fifth thing we picked a seed. Sixth thing we piled the seed. Edward

Susanne came to help us with weeding and harvesting the old beds. Then we made a salad. Here is what Lucas has to say...

Last week we made a salad. It was really good. We made a salad because Susanne came and she taught us a lot of fun stuff. Here's what we put in the salad: chard, mustartd greens, kale, spinich, red oak lettuce, kale flowers, cilentro, and mint and that's all I can remember. The only thing I didn't like was the mint. It was really minty.
