Pocket Markets

Wednesday April 4, 2012

Yesterday, during our second Pocket Market session, the first thing we talked about was farmers' markets. At farmers' markets the food you buy is organic, local, and fresh. The real fun started when we went outside. It was cold! We talked about mason bees and things we could grow at Tyee at this time of year. Everyone was assigned jobs like making mason bee homes, planting sunflower seeds, making jewelry (friendship bracelets), and creating seed packets. I got to help make mason bee homes. I marked where the holes were going to be drilled and painted them. For some, making bracelets was easy. However it was slightly difficult for others. The sunflower seedlings were I believe for the mason bees but were apparently very healthy for us to eat too!

On April 11,2012 Divisions 2, 3, and 4 continued planning the Pocket Market. The students split into groups and continued to work on certain projects such as painting designs on mason bee homes, making friendship bracelets, painting/designing posters, and designing herb cards. Rocky Mountain Pizza Company frozen pizza order forms were sent out a few days ago. One thing that I am really excited about is the local honey that will be sold at the Pocket Market because it tastes great and we will be selling jars of it. Division 2,3, and 4 hope that everyone will buy something because all the money goes to our business venture and garden projects.

On Wednesday May 16,2012 Divisions 2, 3, and 4 manned the first Pocket Market.
